UMBRIA, TUSCANY & CINQUE TERRE

This wonderful tour will start in "the green heart of Italy" where you will taste genuine, organic wines and olive oils in some of the most beautiful hill towns in Italy; Montefalco, Orvieto, Spoleto, Spello, Assisi, just to name a few. Next stop: the nearby Tuscany where you will visit Siena, the most famous Florence, Lucca and Pisa with its leaning tower. Relax at the end, in front of the sea at the magic Cinque Terre.

DESCRIPTION

 

Day 1 - Arrive in Umbria. The tour will start at the airport where you are flying to or at the pick-up point agreed. You will be met by a member of JustUmbria team and driven to the beautiful accommodation we have reserved for you in Montefalco, which will be your home for your Holiday in our Umbria.

Also known as "The Balcony of Umbria”, rich in history, art and traditions, Montefalco is one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. A welcome aperitif and dinner will be held for you and your fellow travellers. The first and the last day of the tour will be tailored according to your flight schedules.

Day 2 - Assisi & Spello. Today we will follow Saint Francis footsteps heading towards Assisi, a town which needs no introduction. A guided tour (optional) will lead you through its historic centre, the Basilica of St. Francis and many other Franciscan sites of one the top Italian destinations most richly endowed with art, spirituality, history and declared part of the World Heritage of Mankind by UNESCO. We will also visit San Damiano and the Eremo delle Carceri. The day will end with a visit of Spello, a quaint old hamlet, also one of "The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy" due to its significant environmental, cultural and artistic heritage.

Day 3 - Perugia & Bevagna. The day will be spent in the capital of Umbria, Perugia. A guided tour (optional) will lead us through the cobblestone alleys visiting the city centre, the historic underground part of the city, and all the major attractions. On the way back to Montefalco we will stop in the nearby Bevagna, famous for its medieval workshops, where a local guide (optional) will show us this enchanting village and all its well preserved Roman and Medieval origins.

Day 4 - Truffle Hunting & Spoleto. Today we will have a little earlier start to meet with the truffle hunter, which will bring us into the woods to seek out the precious Umbrian “tartufo” lead by his dog.  We will then enjoy the truffles at lunch, with fresh pasta and other local delicacies. The rest of the day will be spent in the nearby Spoleto. A guided tour will show us one of the most picturesque and historically significant hill towns in Italy.

Day 5 - Todi & Orvieto. Today we start our itinerary from Todi, a town perched atop a hill, overlooking the Tiber Valley. Its threefold city walls, enclose unexpected treasurers. We will then immerse ourselves in nature for a lunch in a beautiful winery, where we will be introduced to the Orvieto Classico DOC in a relaxing wine tasting enjoying an amazing view on the town of Orvieto, where we will spend the afternoon. This small jewel, built around three thousand years ago by the Etruscans on a dramatic tufo cliffs, is famous for its stunning Duomo, simply one of the most beautiful Italian churches.

Day 6 - Siena & San Gimignano. The journey to Florence will be just amazing. We will first visit Siena, where you join a guide (optional) for a stroll around Piazza del Campo – one of the finest main squares in Italy – the 14th-century Town Hall and the Duomo’s unforgettable frescoes. San Gimignano, the medieval walled town with its 14 towers will be the last stop before heading to Florence in the evening.

Day 7 & 8 - Florence. The beautiful accommodation we have reserved for you in the centre of the city is the strategic starting point for your excursions through the surprisingly interesting Florence. The astonishing Basilica, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, The prominent Uffizi Museum just to name a few of the several attractions. Don't miss out on the morning Market of San Lorenzo and the unforgettable sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo.

Day 9 - Lucca & Pisa. Today we will leave Florence heading west towards the fabulous Lucca. Our local tour guide (optional) will lead you through this lovely town, from the ring of the incredibly well preserved Renaissance walls to the Duomo. The rounded Piazza Anfiteatro is the perfect spot to relax having an Italian ice cream. From Lucca we will move to the nearby Pisa. You can’t leave Italy without a picture of the iconic Leaning Tower! Following the panoramic via Aurelia we will then reach the breathtaking Monterosso al Mare. You will have time for an aperitif at sunset in front of the sea of the Cinque Terre.

Day 10 & 11 - Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre's five villages, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, dated from the early medieval period, are set in one of the most dramatic coastal scenery on earth. Cars here are banned so, in order to visit all of them you will have to choose among ferries, a 19th-century railway line that cuts through or a series of sinuous, romantic, paths.

Day 12 - Farewell. Today will be the farewell day. We will drive you to the airport (or any drop-off point agreed). The last day of the tour will be tailored according to your flight schedules.
